Weber Marine's role in an ambitious cruise ship refit with Trimline
The Marella Explorer underwent a transformative refit in Cadiz, Spain. With tight deadlines and complex technical requirements this project showcased the growing demands of the cruise industry. At the heart of this ambitious project was Weber Marine. The company's innovative floating floor solution played a key role in the successful refurbishment of the ship.

A cruise icon in need of renewal
The Marella Explorer, a key vessel in the Marella Cruises fleet, has long been known for offering an exceptional passenger experience. From its modern cabins to its world-class dining and entertainment facilities, the ship represents the best of cruising. However, as with any cruise ship, Explorer needs maintenance to maintain its high standards and adapt to evolving industry expectations. The refurbishment project presented a unique opportunity to improve the ship's performance and passenger comfort.
The project demanded exceptional efficiency from all involved. For Trimline, the award-winning marine interior outfitter overseeing the refurbishment, success depended on selecting reliable partners who could deliver high quality solutions.
Weber Marine: a game-changing solution
Weber Marine stepped up to the project with their Weber Marine A-60 Floor N Light solution, a state-of-the-art floating floor system specifically designed for marine environments. This innovative flooring provided critical technical and environmental benefits.
Brands involved in reference
The Weber Marine A-60 Floor N Light combines Isover U SeaProtect Slab 90 with the pumpable self-levelling product weberfloor 4660N Marine Elastic, offering several sustainability benefits:
- Weight reduction: The solution delivered a remarkable 30% weight saving (approx.28,000 kg) compared to traditional floating floor systems. This reduction supports the ship’s fuel efficiency and contributes to overall performance.
- Low emissions: The “weberfloor 4660N Marine Elastic” is a low-emission product certified with the Indoor Air Comfort Gold certificate, confirming its compliance with European VOC-related requirements. This certification highlights the product’s contribution to a healthier indoor environment, both during installation and in long-term use.
In order to meet the schedule, Weber Marine took a proactive approach. Weber provided Trimline with practical training on the floating floor solution prior to the project. Once the refurbishment was underway, the Weber team provided on-site support to ensure a smooth installation process.
This preparation paid off. Using a mixer-pump system, Trimline installed an impressive 1,200 square meters of floating floor in just five days. This rapid installation allowed the refurbishment team to focus on other critical tasks.
Nick Farrell praised the collaboration with Weber:" Weber's support on such a large-scale refurbishment throughout the installation phase was first class and made a significant difference in the overall success of the project."
We have been working with Weber for some time now, and their Floating Floor solution offered excellent value and reliability. Their materials are familiar to our team, which made the decision easier. Compared to other options, Weber's solution stood out for its quality, cost-effectiveness, and the added benefit of being able to integrate seamlessly with the materials we already use.
